Project Details

Client: National Vote At Home Institute

Issue Area: Democracy Strengthening

Role: Strategic & crisis communications, messaging research

Challenge

Craft messaging and ad strategy for contested swing counties to maximize mail ballot return. Provide crisis communications for the City of Green Bay on election night. Support DeKalb County, Georgia through ongoing communications and ballot management during the runoff. Simultaneously lead national messaging research on persuadable voter attitudes toward mail ballots — all under public scrutiny, with bad actors actively working to suppress confidence in the process.

Solution

Built the messaging architecture and response frameworks before election night, so the work in each jurisdiction ran on a plan instead of improvisation. Developed targeted ad and messaging strategy for swing counties to drive mail ballot return. Provided real-time crisis communications for the City of Green Bay as the count drew national scrutiny, and ongoing communications and ballot-management support for DeKalb County, Georgia through the runoff. Grounded all of it in national messaging research on how persuadable and moderate voters actually think about vote-by-mail.Outcomes

Outcomes

  • Record voter turnout and above-average ballot completion in supported jurisdictions

  • Successfully managed a high-pressure environment with active misinformation

  • Contributed thought leadership to national polling on moderate and persuadable voter attitudes toward mail ballot integrity
